Patients may resume normal activities within a few days following the surgery. At your preoperative consultation, you will receive pre and post operative instructions. If a breast lift is included recovery time will be 1-2 weeks.
Silicone (Gummy Bear Implants)
Silicone gel is an inert polymer with no known cause to human allergies, sensitivities or reactions. Like gummy bears the molecules are stuck to one another in a cohesive silicone gel. In contrast to saline, silicone gel flows differently within its shell and can often create a more natural look and feel to the breast, like breast tissue. As per the FDA’s regulations women must be 22 years of age or older to be offered silicone gel implants for breast augmentation, many implant manufacturers will not honor warranties in younger patients.
Saline
Saline breast implants have an outer shell made of silicone, the breast implant shell is inserted empty. It is then filled with sterile salt water, which means the incision site is often smaller and less noticeable. Saline implants are typically less expensive than silicone.
A drawback of saline breast implants is that some patients have reported that they’re more easily seen under the skin (causing rippling) and you may feel water sloshing.
Also known as a mastopexy, a breast lift refines the breasts to raise and reshape sagging and drooping. Breast lifts are common among women who are comfortable with their breast size, but unhappy with their lack of perkiness and sagging of their breast tissue. There are a variety of techniques used for women interested in breast lifts. Some women desire improvement in the appearance of their nipple areola and this can be performed at the time of the lift by reducing the size of the areola. Breast lift surgery can help treat the following physical findings:
The length of the breast lift incision depends on the proportion of excess skin to breast volume. The more lifting the breast tissue and nipple require, the longer the lift incision required.
From least aggressive to most aggressive lift is the pericentric (around the nipple), lollipop (around the nipple and a vertical component), and anchor technique (around the nipple, and a vertical and horizontal incision).
The decision for the appropriate lift depends on a variety of factors including breast shape, extent of sagging skin, breast tissue versus glandular fat, and the elasticity of the skin. During your consultation your surgeon will perform a breast exam, evaluate your skin and breast tissue, take your measurements and discuss your best surgical options.
Breast reduction is also known as a reduction mammoplasty, this procedure provides relief for women by reducing back, neck, bra strap and shoulder pain caused by heavy breasts. Reduction in breast volume can also improve a woman’s ability to find clothing and bras that fit more appropriately and comfortably. Other benefits include improved appearance of the breast, reduced areola size, and more youthfully positioned nipples.
Since a significant amount of excess skin and tissue need to be removed the most common techniques used is the lollipop or anchor incision. A scar is necessary in exchange for a new sculpted shape and volume reduction.
Depending upon the extent of the procedure, your surgeon may remove excess fat from the side of the breast and under the armpit with liposuction. The breast tissue will be reshaped and repositioned with the use of sutures to help maintain positioning of the reduced breasts.
Recovery:
Realistically, you will need between 2-6 weeks to make a full recovery, although you’ll start to regain strength and energy in about seven days. Most likely you will need a week off work, depending on the nature of your job, and during this time, you’ll have to limit your activities.
Other Breast Procedures:
Upper Blepharoplasty
With aging, upper eyelids may begin to feel “heavy”. This can be caused by excess upper eyelid skin. Upper blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift, is distinct from a brow lift, which elevates the eyebrow. These procedures may sometimes be done together.Reasons for an upper blepharoplasty may be purely cosmetic (to reduce the appearance of aging), functional (to reduce obstruction of vision by overhanging skin), or both.
Recovery
Usually patients may have mild bruising or swelling around the eyes for about 10 to 14 days. Some surgeons may recommend to avoid makeup for 2 to 3 weeks. Glasses may be worn immediately, but patients may be instructed to avoid contact lenses for a few weeks, depending on surgeons’ preferences.
Lower Blepharoplasty
Also referred to as lower eyelid surgery, lower blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to target and resolve underlying anatomical issues responsible for signs of aging in and around the lower lids, ultimately creating a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
Benefits of a Lower Blepharoplasty:
Recovery:
Recovery from lower eyelid blepharoplasty usually takes 10-14 days. There will be bruising and swelling for 7-10 days. After 2 weeks, you may resume full activity.
